Higher Degree Apprentice at Morrisons
My name is Maitham Rashid. I am currently, at Morrisons plc undertaking a Business and Retail Management higher degree apprenticeship scheme. This involves me studying towards my BA (Hons) in Professional Practice in Management, which allows me to apply my theory to practice. I am now in my third year of the apprenticeship.
I chose to do a degree apprenticeship because it allowed me to gain the best of both worlds by combining both university and real life-work experience without having to get into debt. I am active as a Young Apprentice Ambassador because I want to help drive apprenticeships due to their being a misconception of them currently. Especially, within multi-culture background where communities don’t necessarily understand the worth that apprenticeships bring and would rather advise taking the traditional route before even considering apprenticeships.
I am excited about The Big Assembly because it’s a fantastic opportunity to explore and share apprenticeship across the nation whilst learning about other people stories. This year’s theme for NAW is diversity, promoting diversity is important to me because I come from a multi-ethnic background. I believe that diversity gives any organisation greater deeps of skills and knowledge as different cultural brings different perspectives, ideas, and practices to stimulate and inspire us, to show the way of others.
Together, our differences make a strong, beautiful, world community. Even in the face of intolerance, discrimination, and violence, we must not forget to spread the word about the importance of diversity and to respond to that violence with love and a celebration of our differences.
